Za'atar
Za’atar is the Arabic name for a type of thyme. It is native to the eastern Mediterranean. The same name also refers to a mixture of spices that is based on the za’atar herb.
The traditional Lebanese mix consists of: za’atar, sumac, sesame, and salt, although some ingredients may vary depending on the region where it is traditionally produced (Lebanon, Palestine, Syria, and Jordan).
Its Land
In Lebanon, you will find za’atar everywhere: in every kitchen, restaurant, bakery, at every breakfast table and growing naturally in the hills and mountains. When you smell za’atar, you can imagine yourself in a Lebanese bakery, having breakfast on a hill overlooking the sea, taking a walk in the mountains or in the bustling streets of Beirut.
The tradition of making za’atar in Lebanon dates back several generations. Yet za’atar outside the region remains largely an undiscovered gem. At Za’atar Life, we want to bring you this product so that you can enjoy it too. At the same time, we want to help za’atar producers in Lebanon grow, promoting a sustainable economy despite all the challenges faced in the region.
Benefits of Za'atar
Za’atar has many health benefits and the additional herbs and seeds it is mixed with add to the effect.
